My cute boyfriend scootered over to Pacific Pie Co. to pick up pies for our dinner and our dessert on International Pie Day. We shared the savory, deeply-flavored Beef and Mushroom pie, along with an order of spicy Sausage Rolls. For dessert, a slice of Bourbon Hazelnut and a slice of Coconut Cream. Perfectly fabulous.

I am 100 percent sure I see Divine Pie pies in one of those pictures. Was this a professional pie contest?

I am a CPA by day to support my pie making habits at night and thought that participating in the Pacific Pie Co pie-off on Sunday would be a great way to test out the competitive home-baking environment. While my pie did not place, and the Niners missed the Super Bowl, I did learn that leftover pie eaten straight out of the pie pan with a fork solves just about any problem. On National Pie Day proper, I worked 11 hours, my team lost their rec league basketball game - clearly the solution was more leftover pie. Problems solved. Tonight, the Blazers are looking sluggish playing on the road against the Warriors, but win or lose, I've got the rest of the pie to polish off. The moral of this saga: everyone wins when pie is involved.

I also entered a pie in Sunday's pie contest at Pacific Pie Company. I had never been to PPC before. I found it to be quite charming. My friends and I had a lovely lunch. While my apple blueberry pie didn't win, I thought the contest was very well run. Much fun was had by all! Thanks for judging. I hope more pie contests are sponsored around the city this year.

Hey Veronica - the Butternut Bliss was awesome! I think it was my top choice for savory, which is saying a lot, because I am more of a meat and potatoes kind of guy with savory pies, but I was super-impressed with it - nice job!

That sounds awesome! The only good thing about bringing store-bought pies, though, is hopefully people see the direct comparison of how awful it is compared to good, homemade pie!

I sent out an e-mail last week to the 60 people at my agency, told them that Monday was National Pie Day, and invited everyone to bring any kind of sweet or savory pie, tart, galette, quiche, mini-pie, whoopie pie, hand pie, etc. so we could have a lunchtime "Pie Pourri." About a dozen people contributed, and we got a nice mix, although too many people brought store-bought pies---yuck! Next year---only home-made!

Hello! I'm celebrating National Pie Day all week! First, I made two butternut squash pies that I entered in the Pacific Pie Co. contest. Yesterday, I made Cuban Picadillo Empanadas. Tomorrow I'm going to make grapefruit marmalade tarts. Friday's my birthday so there will surely be birthday pie. Yay pie!
