It’s Opening Day for most Major League Baseball teams, one of my favorite times of the year.
Fellow pie-lover, Barack Obama threw out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals game to get things rolling.
Pie and baseball are forever linked because they’re such iconic symbols of Americana, especially since Chevrolet came up with this jingle in the 70s, “We love baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet”.
The funny thing is, does anyone know of any baseball stadiums that sell pie? I don’t, and for the record, I think that’s wrong. They should.
MakeMeSomePie.com’s pick for MVP in 2010: Felix Pie
Felix Pie, who happens to share his namesake with America’s favorite dessert (yes, I know it’s a Spanish word and that’s why it’s his last name, not because of the dessert), is poised for a breakout season with the Baltimore Orioles. His career so far has been underwhelming, but he won the starting left field assignment for opening day after a strong spring training season.
MakeMeSomePie.com’s all time favorite baseball player: Pie Traynor
Harold (Pie) Traynor is a baseball hall of famer, and an obvious choice for our all-time favorite ball player. Traynor’s nickname came from his love of pastry as a child. Traynor played for Pittsburgh in the 1920s and 30s. He had 2,418 career hits and batted .320 for his career. Some experts consider Traynor to be the greatest team player to play the game. Fitting for a guy named pie.
