The Best Thanksgiving Pie Tradition on TV

UPDATE: Dave’s mom made cherry and sugar cream this year! We didn’t guess quite right in the poll – although, we did have a few votes for cherry. Thanks to everyone for participating!

If regular readers haven’t noticed, I’m quite the fan of David Letterman (even though I don’t stay up late enough to watch anymore). Mr. Letterman, in fact, has inspired this blog in many ways. Pie is frequently used as a source of humor on his show & Mr. Letterman himself seems to be a big fan of pie.

One of the things I look forward to every Thanksgiving is when Dave attempts to guess what kind of pies his mother has made for Turkey Day. It’s been going on for as long as I can remember, and it’s always funny to hear Dave talk pie with his mom, Dorothy Mengering. DDY.com is reporting that this will likely air on Nov. 24, the day before Thanksgiving. Dave’s mom is 89 now, but she looked to be in good health and spirits last year.

I’m not the only one who loves it, in fact, there’s a website dedicated to the annual event: Dave’s Mom’s Pie-o-Rama.

This is a great site & each year they hold a contest to see who can guess Dave’s Mom’s pies. To help you decide, they also have charts & graphs of what pies have been made in the past. For example, here’s a pie chart of what pies she has made.

Oh, also, did you know Dave’s mom had a cookbook? Check it out:

I’m not coordinated enough right now to hold a contest – but let’s do a poll to see if we can collectively guess which two pies Dorothy will make this year.
