Beaverton Bakery has been a staple in Beaverton since 1925 and has locations in Lake Oswego and the Portland Airport (PDX). They offer a full line of baked goods… I’ve always heard good reviews of their cakes, doughnuts and other goodies… not so much the pie, though.
Pie Profile – Pecan Pie – Beaverton Bakery – Beaverton, Oregon
Presentation: I bought a half pie, as that’s the smallest option I had. The container was pretty cool, and the pie looked good. The filling and crust made for a pretty clean cut.
Crust: This was more of a shortcrust, so it wasn’t very flaky. However, I thought the bottom crust worked pretty well with the pie and it wasn’t soggy. The edge of the crust wasn’t anything to write home (or a blog) about, though.
Filling: So there were pecans on top of the pie. I guess that’s good. But the rest of it… was the sugary filling mixture, and no pecans. I haven’t had a lot of pecan pie, so I thought maybe that’s just how it’s supposed to be – but I talked to a few people and confirmed that pecan should kind of be spread throughout. I think I would have enjoyed some more pecans. But, the economy is tight and nuts ain’t cheap (that’s what she said), and I only paid $3.25 for it… so, I guess I should take that into account.
Overall Rating: 1.5 out of 5 slices. I only ate about one fifth of the half pie I bought, so I’m being generous. I give Beaverton Bakery the benefit of the doubt because they’ve been around awhile and maybe I just tried the wrong pie. Maybe I’ll have more luck with a fruit pie, or a doughnut.
