Pie Review: Random Order Coffeehouse and Bakery, Chocolate Cream

This was my dessert when I visited Random Order Coffeehouse and Bakery in the Alberta neighborhood of Portland. My wife and I enjoyed their Chipotle Pork Pie for dinner that evening as well.

Pie Profile: Chocolate Cream, Random Order Coffehouse and Bakery, Portland, OR
Presentation: Gorgeous looking pie. Just look at the picture. It was a very clean slice and the cocoa on top added a nice artistic touch.

Crust: Fantastic, flaky and buttery crust, but it isn’t too heavy either. They use all local ingredients, including flour from Bob’s Red Mill and butter from Sunshine Dairy, and it is an all butter crust.

Filling:I used to have pretty low expectations for cream pies, because every time I’ve had them before, they are basically pudding and some Cool Whip in a pre-baked pie shell. Not this, though. I suspect it was a pre-baked shell, because the bottom crust was nice and crispy, but the filling was so firm and delicious. I could cut into it, as opposed to scooping it. It was amazing!

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5! Random Order, so far, is my favorite pie-joint in Portland as far as I’m concerned. They have both savory and sweet pies that are amazing, plus fantastic coffee, late hours, and adult beverages. I literally was craving a chocolate cream pie the next day, and I can honestly say that I’ve never felt that way about a chocolate cream pie before.
