Pie Review: Sweet Life Pâtisserie – Apple Pie

Let me preface this: Sweet Life Pâtisserie is one of, if not the best, places for dessert in Eugene, Oregon. I love them, so when I was in Eugene for the Conan O’Brien show, I had to stop and try their pie, because, for all the times I went there in college, I never had their pie – I always shared with the wife, who likes their cakes. I tried their traditional apple pie.

Presentation: Best part of this pie. It looked great, very clean, beautiful slice.

Crust: It looked great, but there was way too much sogginess going on. The edge crust was too soft as well, not enough crispiness in this crust overall.

Filling: Well, this is not the style of apple pie filling I like. I understand some people might appreciate it, but not me. The apples were too crispy for my taste, I like them a little softer. The filling did have a nice tartness to it, though, which I appreciate.

Overall Rating: 2 out of 5 slices. Needless to say I was disappointed. I hope the case was that I just got a bad slice, one that was in the case for too long – but I don’t know. At this point, all I can say is, go to Sweet Life, but don’t go for the pie.

Check out Sweet Life Pâtisserie at 755 Monroe Street in Eugene, Oregon.

Worse than Bannings and Fred Meyer? Wow.

  2. Yep, I’m going to stand by my rating. I will do a post to better explain my rating system – but basically – if you gave me, roughly half a pie, or 5 pieces, how many of those pieces would I eat? This pie, I’d probably only eat two of them.
